Photonic Alignment PlatformThe F-716 6DOF photonic alignment platform from PI (Physik Instrumente) is a six-axis system based on air bearings for maintenance-free, 24/7 operation in alignment and probing applications.

Based on a direct-drive architecture with frictionless bearings and firmware-based high-speed alignment algorithms, the system is ideal for high-volume production-scale testing. With an ACS-based motion controller with novel, embedded alignment algorithms and ultrafast scan and alignment routines, the photonics alignment system provides serpentine and circular scans as well as a fast hill-climb gradient search. Embedded alignment routines provide higher performance since communication with an external host computer is not required. The system can handle quasi-gaussian profiles, top-hat profiles, and other typical optical power distributions.
