PI Thermal Imager
Optris Infrared Sensing LLCRequest Info
BERLIN, Feb. 24, 2011 — Optris GmbH has introduced the second generation of its PI thermal imager. The stationary camera is now equipped with a new detector to improve measurement accuracy.
The new generation of detectors enables measurement of small objects on a micrometer scale. Thermal images can now be displayed in real time at a rate of 120 Hz, or one picture every 8 milliseconds, as a result of improved signal processing.
The imager is based on a small uncooled 160 × 120-pixel detector that produces good local resolution of the device under test. Pixel size is 25 × 25 µm. Thermal processes of very small objects starting from 50 µm can be imaged, such as small surface-mount-device components. Precise measurements can be performed starting from a size of 0.5 mm. Exchangeable high-precision lenses allow adjustment of the measurement distance and object size.
The infrared camera is connected to a computer via USB 2.0 and can be operated immediately after connection. The optris PI Connect software enables measurement results to be captured, analyzed and filed as snapshots or video sequences, and it displays the temperature data as a thermal image. It also provides remote control of the camera.
The camera measures 45 × 45 × 62 mm and weighs 250 g, including the lens and cable. It is used in combination with a tablet PC as a mobile device, closing the gap between portable infrared snapshot cameras and pure stationary devices.
Operating temperature range is from -20 to 900 °C, and spectral range is from 7.5 to 13 µm. The camera is supplied with three interchangeable lenses, a tripod, an aluminum case and a process interface plug
Applications include preventive maintenance, construction thermography, research and development, test stations, process automation and portable measurement tasks.
