The VHS400 Verrillon® series of specialty optical fibers from AFL are designed to withstand harsh environments within the oil, gas, industrial, geothermal, and military markets.
The pure silica core dual-wavelength single mode optical fibers are optimized for use at both 1310- and 1550-nm wavelengths. With its entirely down-doped cladding design, they are engineered for bend loss improvement and high performance against hydrogen darkening. Various coatings such as carbon, silicone, mid-temp acrylate, and polyimide allow them to withstand high temperatures and hydrogen-containing atmospheres. Carbon coating can provide hermeticity against water and hydrogen in downhole applications, improving fatigue resistance in long-term deployments. The series is available at proof test levels of 100 and 200 kpsi.
