EVRY, France, May 4, 2010 — BFi Optilas has announced improvements to its NIRQuest line of miniature spectrometers, which are suitable for use in analyzing moisture content in food and beverage products, and analyzing trace metals in wastewater.

The new generation of NIRQuest delivers 20% higher throughput, improved sensitivity and up to three times better noise performance over previous NIR spectrometers. With more options, external triggering and good signal-to-noise performance, the devices are smart and flexible solutions for NIR analysis. With higher throughput, they are more sensitive.

For some applications, that means shorter integration times are needed to collect signal. The instruments are available in 512- and 256-element versions. The NIRQuest512 delivers noise equivalent power of <0.5 pW at 1550 nm with 100-ms integration time. The NIRQuest256-2.5 delivers noise equivalent power of ~25 pW at 2050 nm with 30-ms integration time.
