The OCM 4050 combines four optical channel monitors into a single, compact package. The OCM 4050 is a more compact, reliable and cost-effective alternative to larger mechanical or grating-based optical channel monitors that are typically used together with a 1x4 optical switch on the input fiber. The mosquito OCM 4050 is an ideal low-cost tool for intelligent control of pump power levels, VOAs, gain tilters or dynamic gain equalizers. The modularity of the platform is a key design element of the OCM 4050. It can be used to monitor up to four fiber taps. It can also be configured to monitor both the C & L bands of two fiber taps. Other custom configurations are available. Each port of the OCM 4050 scans the spectrum individually. The spectrum from each port is processed sequentially before interfacing to an external system. For convenience, several communications protocols are implemented, including RS-232, serial peripheral interface and DPRAM. The DPRAM interface is available on the DPRAM interface adapter card, which fits a footprint already familiar to OCM integrators. The OCM 4050 is designed to meet Telcordia GR-468.
