DALSA Inc. has developed new intelligent camera technology and multi-camera communication components that will allow system integrators to network up to 15 line-scan cameras and funnel data into a single frame grabber and host processor, thereby cutting high equipment costs. Using one of the company's programmable communication hubs, multiple cameras are networked together to create, in effect, one super-high-resolution line-scan camera. Embedded with application-tailored data reduction algorithms such as gray-scale thresholding, run-length encoding and edge detection, the intelligent cameras compress the video data into a single data stream and pass only critical information to the processor.
