Multi-layer Thickness and Surface Measurement
WEST HENRIETTA, N.Y., April 5 -- With few moving parts and all-fiber construction, the Lumetrics DI 330 multilayer thickness and surface measurement solution provides a new alternative for noncontact, online measurement of optics, optical assemblies and coated optics products. The dual interferometer (DI) engine uses a 1310-nm LED to create reflections off single and multilayer surfaces and combines a 1550-nm internal laser to perform rapid and accurate measurements of these reflections and convert them to thicknesses and surface profiles. The design includes a closed fiber loop, with piezo electric fiber stretchers instead of free-space optics, to deliver accuracy of 200 nm and resolution of 30 nm over a measurement range of 12 microns to 5 mm and a real-time sampling speed of 100 Hz. Designs are in place that increase the thicknesses Lumetrics can measure as well as increase the speed.
The DI 330 is extremely flexible in its functionality and markets. It measures thicknesses of optics and multilayer plastics in a single online view and measures adhesives, coatings and laminates. It measures and maps surface profiles of surfaces, aids in alignment of lenses and measures air gaps within optical assemblies. It can be used for offline or online quality assurance in a multitude of applications in the optics and plastics industries.
Lumetrics' technology provides 100 percent online inspection to eliminate product failures in the field and to improve flatness and coating profiles. The system helps increase productivity and decrease costs through reduced scrap and returns and provides increased product quality and customer satisfaction. The DI 330 allows process improvements through continuous monitoring, statistical analysis and system modifications.
The DI 330 software architecture includes industry standard software modules for critical functions such as interpretation of data, statistical analysis and the user interface. The experienced engineering team at Lumetrics will design and assemble a system that solves a customer's problems in a flexible and cost-effective manner.
