Hamamatsu’s SMD Mini-Spectrometer
Hamamatsu CorporationRequest Info
The new SMD mini-spectrometer series from Hamamatsu enables new levels of flexibility for designers with its remarkably compact design. Our latest grating type spectrometer, the SMD series model C14384MA-01 features high sensitivity for near-infrared detection, compressed size, lightweight design, and low cost. The C14384MA-01 is about 1/40th of the cubic size and 1/30th of the weight compared to Hamamatsu's MS series of mini-spectrometers, representing a significantly lower profile that enables its use in many devices. The SMD mini-spectrometer also offers sensitivity in the same near-infrared range, but around 50 times higher, so designers can expect improved performance within a more compact sensor that's easier to incorporate with their applications. As well, its spectral range of 640 to 1050 nm makes it particularly suited for applications requiring near-infrared readings.
With all these improved features, many would expect an increase in price for access to higher sensitivity and greater versatility. However, thanks to Hamamatsu’s efficient process and design that reduces the number of parts used in manufacturing, the new SMD mini-spectrometer also features a significantly reduced cost to produce. A reduction we’re glad to pass on to designers by offering a more affordable component that not only meets but exceeds expectations. These adaptable spectrometers can easily be incorporated into devices for a variety of industries but are especially useful for agricultural quality inspection and environmental analysis. Other applications that could make significant use of these near-infrared spectrometers include light level measurement and detailed component analysis and evaluation in industrial settings.
