Synoptics Ltd. has added the Multiple Image Alignment module to its Windows-based
analySIS image analysis system. This feature automates the process of aligning
overlapping images from the same object to obtain a magnified image at high
resolution. An intelligent pattern recognition procedure with a user-definable
search area is used in conjunction with a plausibility check for the overlapping
parts of the various images. This allows the overlapping portions to be
aligned to an accuracy of better than 1 pixel. Two to 12 images can be stitched
together, and adjustments for differing image sizes or X/Y ratios are possible.
