Forensic Glass Analyzer
CRAIC TechnologiesRequest Info
Craic Technologies Inc. and Laboratory Imaging sro have launched the rIQ (refractive index quantification) system for the analysis of glass trace evidence. It combines sophisticated image analysis software, an advanced optical design and electronics to enable criminalists in forensic laboratories to measure the refractive index of multiple glass fragments simultaneously, quickly and accurately.
When combined with Craic’s microscope spectrophotometers and microcolorimeters, the system can determine transmission and fluorescence spectral characteristics of glass evidence.
The automated system uses the thermal immersion method, as defined by the standard ASTM E1967-98, to measure the refractive index of microscopic glass fragments. It is offered as a stand-alone package, as an add-on to Craic’s microspectrophotometers and as an upgrade for older units already in the field.
The stand-alone package consists of a phase contrast microscope, a high-resolution digital camera, the optical interface, a thermal stage, controlling electronics and software. The add-on package can be integrated with Craic microspectrophotometers to measure the color, absorbance microspectra, fluorescence microspectra and the refractive index of small glass fragments.
