Free Lynx Camera Software Upgrade
BOCA RATON, Fla., May 11, 2006 -- Vignetting -- falloff of image brightness with distance from the
frame’s center -- and pixel-to-pixel CCD-sensitivity variations can be
major problems for machine-vision systems used in inspection and
motion-control applications. Imperx’s Lynx programmable cameras include
software correction for these variations, based on an array of
calibration coefficients measured during final product testing at their
factory, but these coefficients cannot fully compensate for changes in
vignetting when different lenses are used or pixel sensitivities change
with age.
To eliminate this problem, Imperx has introduced the Imperx FFC
processor utility as a free software upgrade for its IPX-2M30,
IPX-2M30H, IPX-4M15 and IPX-11M5 series cameras. The utility, which
runs on the imaging system’s host computer, guides the user through a
four-step calibration process identical to what the factory’s test
department uses to field-correct cameras during final test. The result
is a flat-field correction (FFC) file containing the correction factors
the camera needs to perform onboard flat-field correction while
acquiring images. The final steps load the file into the camera and
turn on the FFC feature. The camera then provides images identical to
what a hypothetical perfect camera system -- with no vignetting or
sensitivity variations -- would provide.
The user can create a library of FFC files for each
lens/aperture setting/illumination combination to be used in an
application and can automatically download the appropriate corrections
whenever the camera configuration changes.
