SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 3, 2010 — Spectra-Physics, a Newport Corp. Brand, has announced the Explorer XP 532-5 mid-power green Q-switched diode-pumped solid-state laser. The 5-W device combines the laser head and electronics into a single compact package that fits in the palm of your hand.
It features an air-cooled design, offering good thermal management of <100 W under normal operating conditions. The package weighs <3 kg, making it easy to integrate into machine tools and suitable for use on moving gantries in solar cell, LED and microelectronics manufacturing, and in laser-marking applications.
The industrial laser delivers a short pulse width for a minimum heat-affected zone and high quality microprocessing, and high peak power for marking or selective ablation tasks. The Gaussian beam with typical M2 of <1.1 results in improved spatial resolution and depth of focus, translating into wider process windows.
Based on a proprietary and patented architecture, the laser delivers good pulse-to-pulse stability for consistent processing and higher yields. It operates across a wide repetition rate range from single shot up to 300 kHz for high-throughput micromachining. Other applications include LED chip marking, resistor trimming, memory repair, light detection and ranging, and thin-film photovoltaic manufacturing.
Pulse energy stability is <3%, and the system can be operated using transistor-transistor logic and analog control signals.
All optical components are soldered in place, eliminating unwanted solder flux and minimizing organic contaminants that can degrade operation. The rugged laser is tested to endure bare product shock and vibration with accelerations of up to 100 g. It offers reliable 24/7 operation with good durability, even in the harshest environments.
