TRENTON, N.J., Jan. 29, 2009 – Princeton Instruments has announced its ProEM electron-multiplying (EM) CCD camera platform, which is designed for use in low-light applications associated with single-molecule fluorescence, astronomy and ion imaging as well as high-frame-rate, light-restricted applications.
The instrument uses 512 × 512 and 1024 ×1024-pixel back-illuminated EMCCDs and supports both electron-multiplying and traditional readout ports. The former is used when high frame rates are required under low-light conditions, while the traditional readout port is suitable for slow-scan applications. The ProEM achieves less than 1 e- rms read noise in EM mode and approximately 3 e- rms in non-EM mode. The cameras feature a bias active stability engine (BASE), Princeton Instruments noise suppression (PINS) technology, and OptiCal on-demand EM gain calibration, which produces a linearized map. A hardware-generated time stamp on each frame facilitates time-resolved photometry.
The camera platform’s all-metal seal vacuum design features low dark current, and the device can be deep-cooled with air, liquid or a combination thereof. In vibration-sensitive applications, it can achieve maximum cooling with just liquid, eliminating air turbulence. Its vacuum performance has a lifetime guarantee. The latest Gigabit Ethernet interface enables operation from distances of greater than 50 m.
