SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 10, 2007 -- Coherent Inc. has expanded its Avia line of ultraviolet (UV) lasers with the Avia 355-14, an intermediate power-level model in a package optimized for micromachining at high-throughput rates.
The Avia 355-14 is an all-solid-state Q-switched laser that generates more than 14 Ws at 355 nm. With a pulse duration of <30 ns and a high beam quality (M2 <1.3), it delivers superior materials processing results, in terms of spatial resolution, edge quality and minimized peripheral thermal effects, Coherent said. The laser also supports pulse repetition rates as high as 300 kHz, enabling both vector scanning and very-high-speed raster scanning applications.
The laser has a two-year warranty and a frequency-tripling component that has a projected stable output power of more than 60,000 hours, along with long-lived, field-replaceable pump diodes that lower the costs of ownership. A Posilock beam position sensor and feedback system maximizes beam-pointing accuracy and stability, and automation enhancements include total pulse control and pulse-shaping features that make it well-suited for power-on-demand applications.
The 355-14 delivers high pulse-to-pulse energy stability for high process uniformity and is suitable for a variety of micromachining applications in the microelectronics industry, for example chip singulation, scribing and dicing of silicon and low-K materials via drilling, and solar-cell micromachining, and in ceramic drilling, cutting and scribing.
