Athermalized Beam CollimatorOptical Surfaces Ltd. has announced an athermalized beam collimator design to deliver stable, high performance across a wide temperature range.

The collimators are based on a modified off-axis mirror design incorporating Invar elements and a novel mechanical feature which, when combined, allows direct 100% thermal compensation. In contrast to dynamic options, this is achieved passively and adaptively responds in real time while thermal variations take place. As a result, high optical performance is maintained over a wide range of temperatures.

A zero-expansion off-axis parabolic mirror is used, manufactured to better than λ/10 PV surface accuracy. The optics within the beam collimator are secured through stress-free mounts and come pre-aligned for optimum performance. The all-reflecting design is achromatic with aluminium and magnesium fluoride coatings to operate from the UV to the IR without adjustment.
