OBERSULM, Germany, March 8, 2019 — Artificial Intelligence-Ready Industrial CamerasThe NXT Rio and Rome industrial cameras from IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH are artificial intelligence-ready, featuring a vision application that transforms them from robust industrial cameras to high-performance inference cameras.

The industrial camera platform enables image processing directly on the device. By installing vision apps, users determine which image-processing tasks their device should solve. The vision application reconfigures the embedded hardware so that, for example, the FPGA serves as an artificial intelligence accelerator. At the same time, it ensures that users can load pre-trained artificial neural networks of different architectures onto the cameras and execute them.

The camera models also provide a free choice of optics due to a C-mount lens holder, industrial-grade M12 circular connectors, a serial RS232 interface, GigE network connection, and practical Power-over-Ethernet. Instead of a continuous and unfiltered data stream, images, pre-processed data, or results are transmitted directly to PCs or machine controls.
