16-Channel MPPC Detectors
Hamamatsu Photonics UK Ltd.Request Info
Hamamatsu Photonics UK Ltd. has introduced multipixel photon counter (MPPC) detector modules that complement and expand on its existing line. The new modules are designed to allow simple evaluation of large-area MPPC detectors.
The S11834-3388DF uses a 64-channel array of 3 × 3-mm discrete detectors, resulting in a large total effective area of 576 mm2. It is supplied in a nonmagnetic FPC package to allow use of the array in high magnetic field environments.
The C11206-0404FB uses a 16-channel monolithic MPPC array with 3 × 3-mm pixels, producing a total effective area of 144 mm2 and allowing for maximum position resolution with minimum dead space. Its amplifier module, connected via an FPC, includes a high-voltage supply, a temperature control circuit and a dedicated application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) that has an amplifier and a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to facilitate the evaluation of the MPPC.
The C11206-0808FA also includes a high-voltage supply, a temperature control circuit and a dedicated ASIC, including amplifier and DAC. However, it uses a 64-channel MPPC array with 3 × 3-mm discrete detectors, providing a total effective area of 576 mm2.
All of the detectors are available with 3600 pixels per channel and a 50-μm pitch. Each pixel contains a quenching resistor so that simultaneous photon events can be counted separately and accurately. The devices feature a typical gain value of 7.5 × 105 and high photon detection efficiency in the UV and blue regions of the spectrum, with peak sensitivity at 400 nm, making them suitable for scintillator readout. They are insensitive to magnetic fields, making them suitable for applications in demanding environments.
The modules are used in time-of-flight positron emission tomography, flow cytometry and astrophysics.
