radio-frequency linear accelerator
A device used to accelerate the electrons in a free-electron laser by channeling microwave energy into waveguide cavity assemblies.
rapid rectilinear lens
A double meniscus system in which two achromatized meniscus lenses are arranged symmetrically on either side of the aperture stop, reducing or eliminating distortion, coma and lateral color.
rectilinear
In a straight line. When applied to a lens, it indicates that images of straight lines formed by the lens are not distorted.
rectilinear propagation
Straight line travel. This denotes the fact that light travels in a straight line when traveling through a medium with a constant refractive index.
rectilinear scanning
The scanning of a region in a given sequence of slender, straight parallel strips.
rectilinear system
An optical system that is corrected for distortion and spherical aberration and therefore forms the image of a straight line as a straight line.
raster
The pattern of lines traced by rectilinear scanning in display systems.
representative fraction
Ratio between map or photo linear distance and the actual ground dimensions represented.
robotic arms
Robotic arms, also known as robot arms or manipulator arms, are mechanical devices designed to mimic and perform the functions of human arms. They consist of multiple articulated segments, joints,...
