negative-refraction metamaterial

An artificial material, engineered to have a negative refractive index value, such that light or any other form of electromagnetic radiation bends in the opposite direction than it would in ordinary matter, making it potentially very useful for focusing images. Other applications for these metamaterials include uses in lithography as well as developing a 'superlens' that could possibly allow for imaging below the diffraction limit.
