fast axis collimation lens

A FAC lens, or fast axis collimation lens, is an optical component used in laser diode systems to collimate the fast axis of laser emission. Laser diodes emit light in two main axes: the fast axis, where the emission has a narrower divergence angle, and the slow axis, where the divergence angle is wider. The FAC lens is specifically designed to shape and collimate the fast axis emission of the laser diode.

The primary function of the FAC lens is to transform the elliptical beam profile of the fast axis into a circular beam profile with reduced divergence. This process improves the beam quality and allows for more efficient coupling of the laser light into optical fibers or other optical systems.

FAC lenses are typically cylindrical lenses with specific optical properties tailored to the characteristics of the laser diode, such as wavelength and numerical aperture. They are often integrated into laser diode packages or mounted externally in laser systems.
