ams-OSRAM Divests Entertainment and Industry Lamps Business to Ushio
PREMSTAETTEN, Austria, July 30, 2025 — Following its announcement in May that it was in talks to sell a portion of its business, ams-OSRAM has signed an agreement with Ushio Inc. for the sale of its entertainment and industry lamps (ENI) business. The €114 million (approximately $132 million) deal is expected to close next March. ENI’s product portfolio ranges from sophisticated light sources for semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment to specialty lamps for infrastructure and cinema applications.
For Ushio, the company said, the acquisition strengthens the profit base of the industrial processes business, particularly the light source business centered on the semiconductor field.
The deal represents ams-OSRAM’s first divestment under its deleveraging plan, which the company announced earlier this year. The strategy aims to improve free-cash flow performance following the execution of the “Re-establish the Base” program, which ams OSRAM announced in 2023.
The deleveraging plans additionally calls to achieve structural growth in the core semiconductor business, facilitate an exit from the company's 8-in. LED facility in Kulim, Malaysia, and consider strategic options for various additional assets.
Early last year, ams OSRAM said that it was reassessing its micro-LED strategy following the unexpected customer cancellation of a cornerstone project. After the project's cancellation, the company said that it would revisit the future of assets related to its micro-LED strategy.
The project cancellation followed additional restructuring stemming from the implementation of the “Re-Establish the Base” strategy. The company subsequently exited its non-core portfolio in its semiconductors business and separated from its passive optical components portfolio. ams OSRAM sold the portfolio to Focuslight Technologies last May.
