Zygo Laser Fusion Optics Contracts
Zygo Corp., a supplier of optical metrology instruments, precision optics, and electro-optical design and manufacturing services, announced it has received $6.8 million of contracts from an undisclosed customer for delivery of laser damage-tolerant high-precision optics. It said it has booked $1.9 million of the contracts, which are scheduled for delivery over the next year, for its first quarter of fiscal 2007. Work on the balance of the contracts will begin during the fiscal quarter. The work will be performed at Zygo's custom optics and optical coating facility in Middlefield, Conn. The company said the total amount of contracts received from this customer over the past 15 months are valued at more than $14 million. High-energy laser tolerant mirrors are a key element for all high-energy laser systems in fusion research. Lasers that are used to initiate a fusion reaction are reflected from the source to the fusion target chamber via a series of mirrors. The high energy levels that are necessary to initiate a fusion reaction require the reflecting mirrors to be undamaged during the lasing process. In addition, Zygo announced today that its Display Solutions Div. received an order worth more than $1.4 million for its DropShot flat-panel metrology system. The system is designed to operate with the latest OLED and LCD inkjet printing technologies to analyze product quality and provide valuable feedback for real-time process control.
