Carl Zeiss SMT Inc., a semiconductor and nanotechnology instrument manufacturer in Thornwood, N.Y., and California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology at the University of California, Irvine, (UCI) have established a center for nanotechnology and biotechnology research and advanced materials development. Zeiss is providing three electron microscopes worth approximately $2.5 million. The university’s researchers and industry partners and the company’s applications development team share the equipment at the Zeiss Center of Excellence, which is on the university campus.
