Zecotek Lands Fermilab Contract

SINGAPORE, Aug. 9, 2010 — Zecotek Photonics Inc. announced that the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) in Illinois has contracted with it to develop a custom micropixel avalanche photodiode (MAPD) based on its existing MAPD-3 design.

The new units are required to meet specifications for the European Organization for Nuclear Research’s (CERN) compact muon solenoid Hadron Calorimeter Phase 1 upgrade.

The MAPDs will be developed and delivered through the company’s Singapore-based wholly owned subsidiary, Zecotek Imaging Systems Pte. Ltd.

The photonics technology company develops a range of products, including crystals, photodetectors, lasers, and imaging and 3-D display technologies for medical, biotech, industrial, nanotech and atomic/molecular science applications.

Glossary
diode
A two-electrode device with an anode and a cathode that passes current in only one direction. It may be designed as an electron tube or as a semiconductor device.
nano
An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale. Nano-optics (also referred to as nanophotonics), for example, is the study of how light and light-matter interactions behave on the nanometer scale. See nanophotonics.
photodetector
A photodetector, also known as a photosensor or photodiode, is a device that detects and converts light into an electrical signal. Photodetectors are widely used in various applications, ranging from simple light sensing to more complex tasks such as imaging and communication. Key features and principles of photodetectors include: Light sensing: The primary function of a photodetector is to sense or detect light. When photons (particles of light) strike the active area of the photodetector,...
photodiode
A two-electrode, radiation-sensitive junction formed in a semiconductor material in which the reverse current varies with illumination. Photodiodes are used for the detection of optical power and for the conversion of optical power to electrical power. See avalanche photodiode; PIN photodiode. photodiode suppliers →
