BELLINGHAM, Wash. — SPIE named Arutyun Bagramyan as the winner of the 2023 SPIE-Franz Hillenkamp Postdoctoral Fellowship in Problem-Driven Biomedical Optics and Analytics. Bagramyan, who received his Ph.D. in physics and biomedical engineering from Laval University (Quebec) in 2020, will receive the $75,000 award designed to support interdisciplinary problem-driven research and provide opportunities for translating new technologies into clinical practice for improving human health. JENA, Germany — The supervisory board of Jenoptik AG named Ralf Kuschnereit to the executive board, effective Jan. 1, 2023, and Prisca Havranek-Kosicek as CFO, effective April 1, 2023. Kuschnereit heads the Advanced Photonic Solutions division and is a member of Jenoptik’s executive management committee. Havranek-Kosicek will take over the position from Hans-Dieter Schumacher, who did not extend his contract, which is set to expire March 31, 2023. LONDON — ORCA Computing, an optical computing company, named Per Nyberg CCO. Nyberg is a specialist in quantum and high-performance computing, having spent 17 years at Cray. He joins ORCA from Quantum Machines, where he served as vice president of strategic markets and alliances. PLAINVIEW, N.J. — Veeco Instruments appointed Lena Nicolaides to its board of directors. Nicolaides serves as senior vice president and general manager of a pattern inspection process control division for KLA Corp. She has served in a range of executive leadership and general management roles for KLA, including roles in technology supply chain. Prior to KLA, she served as vice president of marketing and applications for Therma Wave, which was acquired by KLA in 2007. Nicolaides holds 38 patents in semiconductor and related fields.
