Amorphous silicon offers digital promise

Amorphous Silicon x-ray detectors are on the verge of revolutionizing medical imaging technology. Although laboratory prototypes have been available for a few years, the technology has matured to the point of mass production. Within the next year, products containing this technology will start to appear in selected hospitals, and within five years amorphous silicon based digital radiography will be a common sight.
