A group of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory scientists in Livermore, Calif., has conducted research that could lead to the development of a widely tunable diode-pumped solid-state laser for medical laser systems. The group fabricated high-power, long-wavelength InGaAsP-InP diode bars integrated into a 2-D architecture. The 10-bar microlensed array produced 200 W of pulsed power at 1.73 µm and was used for pumping a tunable Cr:ZnSe laser.
