Wasatch Photonics Hires Scientist to Develop OCT System
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. & LOGAN, Utah, Sept. 10, 2013 — Imaging technology expert Roman Kuranov, Ph.D., has joined Wasatch Photonics Inc. as its principal scientist to oversee development of the company’s OCT imaging systems.
Kuranov previously was a research faculty member in the Department of Ophthalmology in the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and R&D engineer at Volcano Corp. and CardioSpectra.
“Roman brings comprehensive academic and industrial experience that will greatly benefit Wasatch Photonics by improving our OCT imaging capabilities,” said Mike Sullivan, Wasatch Photonics general manager. “He has a track record of success and will lead our efforts on the Intravascular (IV)-OCT grant and other OCT imaging equipment.”
Founded in 2002, Wasatch Photonics designs, manufactures and markets high-performance Raman spectrometers, OCT systems, enhanced holographic optics for optical networking, spectroscopy, test and measurement, and medical imaging applications. Its Photonics System Div. is based in Durham, N.C., and it has a facility in the Purdue Research Park at Purdue University. The company was a finalist for a 2013 Prism Award for photonics innovation for its Stroker f/1.3 lens-based spectrograph.

Glossary
- optical coherence tomography
- Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique used in medical and scientific fields to capture high-resolution, cross-sectional images of biological tissues. It provides detailed, real-time, and three-dimensional visualization of tissue structures at the micrometer scale. OCT is particularly valuable in ophthalmology, cardiology, dermatology, and various other medical specialties.
