Simon McElrea has been named vice president of product management and development at Vertical Circuits Inc. (VCI), a Scotts Valley, Calif., die-level semiconductor stacking company that supplies semiconductor and electronic products and services to commercial and aerospace customers. McElrea is responsible for the development and commercialization of VCI's product line and intellectual property. He is currently focused on the broad adoption of the company's ultrahigh-density three-dimensional chip-stacking technology. Prior to joining VCI, he was director of system-in-package at Amkor Technology, where he led the commercialization of consumer electronics and enterprise products from 2003 to 2006. He joined Amkor in 2000 and managed a series of advanced assembly and module technologies while based in the US and Asia. From 1995 to 2000, he held a number of senior technology positions in Johnson Matthey and Honeywell Electronic Materials. He began his career in zero-emission vehicle (fuel cell) technology in Europe and continues to support the research of advanced technologies in that field.
