The University of California, Santa Barbara, will transfer molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth processes for wireless and optical telecommunications devices to the new epitaxial Process Integration Center of Veeco Instruments Inc. of St. Paul, Minn. The university will demonstrate the growth processes and ways of growing nonproprietary versions of certain device structures, including 980-nm and 1.5-µm edge-emitting lasers. The processes that were developed at the university on Veeco's single-wafer Gen II systems will be replicated on the center's multiwafer Gen200 production systems.
