VRmagic Celebrates 10 Years in Imaging

VRmagic GmbH is celebrating 10 years of developing, manufacturing and selling cameras and image processing components for industrial and scientific applications.

The company began in 2001 as a producer of simulators for medical training. However, it soon established itself in the image processing market with the introduction of a USB 2.0 camera developed for the tracking system of the intraocular surgery simulator Eyesi Surgical. The camera was not intended to be sold as a stand-alone product, but with significant interest from the industry, VRmagic offered the camera as an independent component.

“With the VRmC-3, we were the first to combine CMOS sensor and USB 2.0 for applications in industry and medicine,” said Managing Director Dr. Markus Schill. “We made the strategic decision to build up a separate business division, Imaging, with professional structures.”

Over the decade, VRmagic has grown to be a company with 50 employees, a sales organization in Cambridge, Mass., and two independent business divisions.

VRmagic launched its first two camera models, which sold more than 10,000 units, in 2003. Then in 2008, VRmagic developed a multisensor camera with four pixel-synchronous sensors, and recently it released the D3 camera platform with increased performance and a higher storage capacity.
