VISION Returns to Messe Stuttgart

After the biennial VISION show was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, machine vision professionals from around the world will gather in person again this year to attend the event at Messe Stuttgart in Germany on Oct. 5-7.

“As the world’s leading trade fair has not taken place for three years, we are looking forward to a ‘coming home’ atmosphere,” VISION project manager Florian Niethammer told Photonics Media. The event will highlight the latest trends and topics in machine vision, including hyperspectral imaging, robot vision, and embedded vision.

Participants can look forward to a conference and exhibit program featuring novel solutions, ideas, and perspectives, Niethammer said.

The exhibition will reflect current and emerging dynamics of the industry market, ranging from emerging players focused on automation technology to expanded companies and newly formed company constellations — such as the TKH Group and the Teledyne Imaging group of companies — that were forged by recent mergers and acquisitions, he said.

Together with the VDMA (Mechanical Engineering Industry Association), organizers are planning the return of Industrial VISION Days, a forum in which live presenters feature innovations, trends, and new products from the machine vision industry. The forum will be streamed live and offered on demand for the first time.

The VISION Award, which recognizes the top innovations in the field of machine vision, will also be presented live onstage. The winner will be announced by a jury of industry experts.

New companies that will be present include those participating in the premiere of VISION Start-up World, which will highlight approaches and innovations in camera technologies, artificial intelligence and deep learning software, and advanced image processing systems, Niethammer said. Visitors can also look forward to speaking with systems integrators and solutions providers, who will present their products and services for various application markets in the show’s Integration Area.

Show organizers have received confirmed registrations from about 250 international exhibitors. The number signals a scaled-down edition of VISION compared to the 2018 event. Nevertheless, those who attend can expect a robust program and exhibition that will likely return to size in years to come. The concurrent trade fairs Motek and parts2clean are also new. Participants in both guest events will have the opportunity to visit the VISION show free of charge.

“With VISION, you can experience everything that the industry is discussing, offering, and developing in one place,” Niethammer said. “It doesn’t get any more central than this.”
