Universal Display Corp. of Ewing, N.J., has received a $100,000 Small Business Innovation Research Phase 1 contract from the US Department of Energy. The goal of the program, which is titled "Transparent, Highly Efficient White OLEDs for Lighting Applications," is to increase the power efficiency of white organic LED lighting using Universal Display's transparent and phosphorescence technologies. The company will develop and fabricate a white transparent phosphorescent light source that is coupled to an external reflector. The technology is expected to improve optical extraction efficiency and may have applications in the commercial, residential and industrial sectors.
