ATLANTA, Dec. 6 -- Hitachi Telecom (USA) Inc. reported that Los Angeles-based US Optics Inc. would deploy Hitachi's optical transmission equipment in its West Coast Network. The agreement -- valued at $100 million over a three-year term -- call for Hitachi to supply its Advanced Multiservices Network ultra high-speed optical transmission equipment, including dense wavelength division multiplexing and OC-192 synchronous optical network equipment.US Optics will run its West Coast network over the optical fiber facilities of participating utility companies. The company's initial deployments will be four-fiber bi-directional line-switched rings in the San Francisco and Los Angeles metro regions. US Optics said it expects to expand to a nationwide backbone connecting eleven other cities within the next two years.
