ChemImage of Pittsburgh, a developer of chemical imaging technology, will collaborate with the US Department of Agriculture’s research service to develop high-speed imaging technology for monitoring chemical and biological contaminants in food. Their goal is to create technology that will enable inspectors, regulators and consumers to monitor the quality and safety of food products, with the initial research focusing on the detection of melamine, a chemical compound added to food products imported from China in 2007 that resulted in harm to pets.
