UK Companies Ally to Improve Video Headsets

To develop more affordable, robust and ergonomic head-mounted display systems, three British companies have entered into a 24-month, $800,000 collaboration. The systems will incorporate organic emissive microdisplay technology from MicroEmissive Displays Ltd. of Edinburgh, optics custom-designed by Thales Optics UK of St. Asaph, and design expertise for usability and wearability by the EPICentre at the University of Abertay Dundee.

The headsets are intended for applications such as thermal imaging, personal computer gaming and video-enabled, hands-free kits for cellular phones.
