FARMINGTON, Conn., Dec. 8, 2017 — Laser developer Trumpf Inc. and additive manufacturing powder developer A3DM Technologies have entered into a collaboration agreement to develop specialty metal powders and laser parameters.

As part of the agreement, A3DM Technologies will have Trumpf’s TruPrint 1000 installed at their research facility in Burlington, Vt. With several parameters and cylinder sizes to choose from, the TruPrint 1000 is well suited for material and parameter development.

“The TruPrint 1000 is a compact, high-precision powder bed system offering flexibility and performance with the robustness and high-quality customers expect from a Trumpf product,” said Ralf Kimmel, general manager of the Trumpf Laser Technology Center in Plymouth, Mich.

“A3DM welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with Trumpf in the development of operating parameters for our refractory and precious metal powders,” said Steven Adler, CEO of A3DM Technologies. “The TruPrint 1000 platform will allow A3DM the flexibility to perfect a broad range of materials while providing a stable path for our future needs in larger AM production systems.”

Trumpf is a developer of fabricating machinery and industrial lasers for flexible sheet metal processing. A3DM Technologies performs research and development of refractory and precious metal powders optimized for additive manufacturing by induction plasma technology.

additive manufacturing
Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, is a manufacturing process that involves creating three-dimensional objects by adding material layer by layer. This is in contrast to traditional manufacturing methods, which often involve subtracting or forming materials to achieve the desired shape. In additive manufacturing, a digital model of the object is created using computer-aided design (CAD) software, and this digital model is then sliced into thin cross-sectional layers. The...
