IRVINE, Calif., Mar. 6 -- Trimedyne Inc. reported that the US Patent and Trademark Office has allowed 41 claims of an application covering its new cosmetic laser. The company expects the patent to issue in the next few months. Trimedyne said its new laser cuts tissue with minimal thermal effect and offers versatility in power output for selected applications; it plans to market the laser to cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists for in-office procedures.
Trimedyne plans to complete development of the new laser by the end of 2000. The device has already been cleared for sale by the FDA for a variety of applications in cosmetic surgery and dermatology.
