Teledyne FLIR Partners with Valeo on Auto Safety Tech
Teledyne FLIR and global automotive supplier Valeo have entered into a collaboration that will use thermal imaging technology to enhance road user safety. The companies said this week that the partnership follows a previously secured contract from a leading automotive OEM.
Specifically, the pair will deliver Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) B thermal imaging technology for night-vision ADAS. This system will use Valeo’s ADAS software stack to support functions such as automatic emergency braking at night for passenger and commercial vehicles as well as for autonomous cars.
Paul Clayton, vice president and general manager of Teledyne FLIR, said that FLIR, which already incorporates its thermal imaging technology into automotive safety systems ranging from aftermarket driver-aid technologies to autonomous robotaxis, is using the technology to allow more drivers and automated vehicle safety systems to see in complete darkness, cluttered environments, and adverse weather where other sensors struggle.
