Hillsboro, Ore.-based FEI Co., a scientific instruments company, has announced the completion of a multiple systems installation at the Materials Ageing Institute (MAI) in France, a utility-oriented research center financed by Electricité de France, the Tokyo Electric Power Co., the Kansai Electric Power Co. and the US Electric Power Research Institute. The MAI microscopy laboratory has commissioned FEI’s Titan scanning transmission electronic microscope to study the aging of materials. The goal is to improve the reliability and safety of nuclear and non-nuclear power plants and to extend their lifetimes.
