Synopsys has announced the winners of the 2019 Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Optical Design Competition. The annual competition is open to students in North America working toward a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree and who are using Synopsys’ optical software to conduct optical design and engineering research. This year, the company has granted awards to students from Columbia University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and the University of Rochester. Out of the contest came new designs for car headlights; cinema lenses; photonic links; camera lenses for oceanography, IR imaging, and thermal imaging; and more.
