CHILTON, England — Gianluigi Botton will become CEO of the U.K.’s national synchrotron, Diamond Light Source. Botton, who serves as science director of the Canadian Light Source, will assume the role in October and will take over from Andrea Ward. Botton, a spectroscopy and microscopy expert, established the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy and is a professor in the department of materials science and engineering at McMaster University (Ontario). Bastani will work to further strengthen the company’s focus on the U.S. and global markets and provide guidance related to the semiconductor, photonics, 5G, and satellite communications ecosystems. Lunenberg has over 30 years of experience in the life sciences industry, in entrepreneurship, marketing strategy, fundraising, and business management. He formerly served on the executive management teams at CERUS Europe BV and Cryo-Save NV, as well as global marketing director at Organon NV. Flournoy was under secretary of defense for policy during President Barack Obama’s first term, serving as principal adviser to the secretary of defense in the formulation of national security and defense policy, in oversight of military plans and operations, and in National Security Council deliberations. In 2017, she co-founded WestExec Advisors, a strategic advisory firm in Washington, D.C. The company earlier this year added former Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to its board.
