PASADENA, Calif., May 21 -- SpectraSensors Inc. announced today it has closed a $2,000,000 financing round led by Blueprint Ventures, of San Francisco, and Forrest Binkley & Brown, of Newport Beach.
As part of the deal, SpectraSensors acquired the intellectual property of Tunable Photonics Corp., a manufacturer of fiber optic components for wavelength management.
SpectraSensors, of Altadena, which makes laser and LED-based gas sensor products, is a technology spinoff of the NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.
"We believe the combined entity creates a strong technology base and patent portfolio for addressing a host of applications in the optical sensor market," said George Hoyem, a partner at Blueprint Ventures. "The application of NASA/Caltech-derived laser products, targeting gas-sensing applications, is an extremely timely set of solutions addressing homeland security, environmental and industrial applications. These are large and exciting markets in today's economy."
