"Rapid growth in advanced laser eye surgery techniques, neuroscience research and nanophotonics applications has dramatically increased the demand for our precision optical design expertise," said Craig Fitzgerald, the company's vice president of business development.
The building will house state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment for optical subassembly fabrication, final module assembly and testing.
A division of Navitar Inc., Special Optics designs and delivers precision optical systems, such as femtosecond laser beam management optics for corneal repair and laser cataract eye surgery, high-numerical-aperture microscope objectives for two-photon microscopy, life sciences and semiconductor applications, and other complex optical systems for DNA sequencing, stem-cell imaging and laser ablation, among others.
