Fujitsu Ltd. and Sony Corp., both of Tokyo, have teamed up to develop and produce advanced microchips to save on development costs. They plan to develop "system-on-a-chip" technology for use in digital cameras and other information equipment. A new production line is planned for Fujitsu's plant in Mie Prefecture in western Japan, with operations slated to begin in autumn 1999. Fujitsu and Sony will share the $748 million cost of the production line.
