BOSTON, Mass., June 13, 2008 – Claiming its biggest show in 10 years, the 2008 Vision Show East entertained an enthusiastic crowd with hot new technology and perfect weather.

This year’s show was held at Boston's Hynes Convention Center, and was sponsored by the Automated Imaging Association (AIA), the world’s largest trade group dedicated exclusively to promoting the use of machine vision in the industry. Topics causing all the buzz included smart cameras, frame grabbers, infrared thermal measurement solutions, fiber optic sensor bundles, LED illumination and image sensors. A new and wide swath of applications suggested a major industry upsurge.

The Vision Show touched on everything from an image-processed synthesizer (which is currently on a world tour with Bjork) to digital roulette. Thermography cameras demonstrated remarkable precision in measurement, and smart cameras were once again the center of attention, showcasing superior image capture, built in processors, interface devices for compatibility, and smaller and more accurate designs.

fiber optic bundles
Fiber optic bundles consist of multiple optical fibers grouped together within a common protective sheath or coating. These bundles are used to transmit light from one point to another, often for imaging, illumination, or data transmission purposes. Structure: Optical fibers: Each bundle contains numerous individual optical fibers, which can be made from glass or plastic. These fibers are designed to guide light efficiently over distances. Protective sheath: The fibers are...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
