Scientific Digital Imaging (SDI) plans to expand and enhance its digital imaging technology through the recent acquisition of Opus Instruments for £1.33 million (about $2.2 million) in cash and shares. SDI cites in particular Opus’ Osiris camera as a valuable gain in the acquisition, calling it the first such device for IR reflectography to provide high-resolution, high-speed images in a small portable form. Osiris has been used predominately in art galleries and museums to examine works of art, but SDI plans to explore further applications for the technology. The addition of Osiris cameras is also expected to enhance SDI’s existing portfolio, joining its Atik and Artemis camera lines, said Ken Ford, chairman of SDI.
