SPIE has honored nearly 1800 fellows since its inception in 1955, including 83 fellows in 2023. The 2024 class includes Richard Crocombe, past president of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy and founder of Crocombe Spectroscopic Consulting; Jan Van Schoot, director of system engineering at ASML; and Tom Baur, founder and chairman of Meadowlark Optics.
