SPIE Hires Strategist

BELLINGHAM, Wash., Jan. 15, 2014 — Photonics technology development veteran Bob Hainsey has joined the SPIE staff as science and technology strategist. 

The former senior director of central research, development and engineering at Portland, Ore.-based Electro Scientific Industries (ESI), Hainsey has more than 20 years of experience in product development for semiconductor processing and laser micromachining applications. At ESI, he led the development of laser and optics technologies for laser micromachining applications. He has also conducted joint research with universities and centers of excellence in the US, Canada, China and Europe.

Hainsey is named as an inventor on 11 patents and has published 14 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings papers. He holds a Ph.D. in physics from Carnegie Mellon University.
