SPIE Director Eugene Arthurs Joins Edmund Optics Board
Edmund Optics, a producer of optics, imaging and photonic technologies, has elected Dr. Eugene G. Arthurs, executive director of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, to its board of directors. Previously, Arthurs served as president and CEO of Cleveland Crystals Inc. Prior to that he served as president of Oriel Instruments Inc. (formerly Oriel Corp.) of Stratford, Conn., and a director at LOT-Oriel GmbH and at Andor Technology Ltd. Since 1983, Arthurs served as technical director of Oriel Corp.; after his promotion the following year to vice president of marketing and technology, he also served as a director of Oriel Scientific, UK, and a director and founder of Andor Technology Ltd. He was also a manager of semiconductor systems business at Quantronix Corp. in Hauppauge, N.Y., headed the laser department at Barr & Stroud Ltd., Glasgow, Scotland, and was a strategic planner for Pilkington PLC, St. Helens, England. Arthurs received his Ph.D. and B.S. degrees in physics at Queen's University, Belfast. He is a member of the Optical Society of America, AAAS and IEEE LEOS, and he serves on the Council on Optical Radiation Measurement. He also served on the board of the Photochemical Research Center and on the advisory board of the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance.
